BASKETBALL

" When I was learning how to play basketball, the most important lesson

I learned was discipline, and how to apply it . If you work hard and

follow the rules, you will learn the difference between doing things the

right way and doing things the wrong way. Playing basketball has taught

me how to work well with others, too, and I've become friends with my

opponents.

History of basketball

Basketball was invented in December 1891 by Dr James Naismith, a

teacher at the YMCA International Training School in Massachusetts,

USA. Dr Naismith thought up a game to relieve the boredom of his

students during the wintertime physical training classes. He arranged for

two peach baskets to be nailed to the balconies at each end of a

gymnasium, found a soccer ball, and set some rules which are the same

basic rules of the game today.
